Bonku Babu's Friend

  • A Gentle Teacher's Life Bonku Babu is a mild-mannered geography and Bengali teacher who has worked at the Kankurgachhi Village Primary School for twenty-two years. Despite constant teasing and pranks from his students, he never loses his temper, finding his reward in teaching the few boys who are genuinely interested in his captivating stories of foreign lands.
  • The Toxic Evening Gatherings During the weekends, Bonku Babu attends evening meetings at the home of Sripati Majumdar, an influential village lawyer. The other grown men in the group mercilessly mock and play cruel physical pranks on Bonku Babu. He endures this mistreatment silently, fearing he might offend Sripati Babu and lose his social standing.
  • The Debate Over Extraterrestrials One evening, the group spots a moving light in the sky, prompting a discussion about satellites and space travel. When Bonku Babu timidly suggests the possibility of an alien spaceship landing in their village, the group erupts in laughter, insisting that highly intelligent aliens would only land in Western countries, not Kankurgachhi.
  • An Extraterrestrial Encounter While walking home through a bamboo grove in the dark, Bonku Babu notices an eerie silence as the crickets stop chirping. He discovers a glowing pink, glass-like spacecraft. As he approaches, an invisible force paralyzes him completely, though it causes no physical pain.
  • Meeting Ang from Craneus A bizarre, four-foot-tall creature emerges from the ship. It has a smooth, hairless head, glowing yellow eyes, and thin limbs, wearing a shiny pink outfit. The creature introduces itself as Ang from the planet Craneus. Ang releases Bonku Babu from his paralysis and claims superiority, noting he knows 14,000 languages across the solar system.
  • Visions of the World Ang asks Bonku Babu if there is anything he has always wanted to see. Using a special glass tube, Ang shows the geography teacher incredible, vivid sights he had only ever read about: the Aurora Borealis, polar bears, and a walrus in the snowy North Pole, followed by the dense Amazon forest in Brazil, complete with an anaconda, crocodiles, and carnivorous piranhas.
  • A Life-Changing Piece of Advice Before departing, Ang tells Bonku Babu that while he is a genuinely good man, he has one major flaw: he is far too meek and mild. The alien advises him that making progress in life requires standing up against injustice and protesting when insulted, rather than taking things quietly. Ang then boards his spaceship and vanishes.
  • Standing Up to the Bullies Empowered by this extraordinary experience and Ang's words, Bonku Babu is completely transformed. The next day, he boldly storms into the group's evening gathering like a hurricane. Bursting with unprecedented confidence, he laughs uproariously at his tormentors, informs them it will be his last meeting, demands his stolen belongings back, directly insults the men who mocked him, and proudly announces his encounter with the alien before walking out with his head held high.
